Pool and Spa Laws in Victoria
As of 1st December 2019, new laws are in place requiring pool and spa owners to register have mandatory barrier inspections by a registered inspector.

Where to start?
Lodgement Cut-off Dates

As a pool or spa owner you need to complete the following:

Register your pool with your local council.
2. Organise an inspection of your pool barrier with Kidsafe Pools Victoria
3. Rectify any issues identified by our inspectors. Once rectified, we will issue you with a certificate of barrier compliance.

4. Submit a certificate of compliance to your council by the due date.​
​

Depending on when your pool/spa was built, you will have a different deadline to have your pool registered and barrier compliance lodged with your local council.

- 1 June 2022, for a swimming pool or spa with a date of construction on or before 30 June 1994
​

1 June 2023 for a swimming pool or spa with a date of construction on or after 1 July 1994 and before 1 May 2010
​

1 June 2024, for a swimming pool or spa with a date of construction on or after 1 May 2010
Self-Assessment
The Victorian Government has compiled self-assessment checklists to help you further understand the barrier requirements for your pool/spa. However a self-assessment does not replace the requirement of an inspection from a registered inspector.
